I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Pears?!!!!!

This isn't as much an update as just a sharing of my feelings at the moment.
I just canned 24 quarts of pears that I am hoping I will get to feed to my baby. I don't know how Nathan and I will eat all of them by ourselves so we need to share them with someone. I also have the baby room set up and am just waiting to have the bedding sewn so that the room is ready for a little one. I pray that this little one does not come early because it needs all the strength that it can get before going through all that it will have to. I have read everything that I can about omphaloceles and diaphramatic hernias on the Internet and have even met with a mother who has a beautiful little girl that has gone through and survived a diaphramatic hernia. So much that I have read about has shown hope, but I can not find any stories about babies that have both problems. This is discouraging because I want to read survival stories about babies just like my own.
Nathan and I have spent more time in prayer than we have ever done before. We go from begging God to heal our child to asking for acceptance to whatever His will is for our child. It is so difficult to not know the plans for one that is so loved.
This little one has been growing a lot lately, according to my doctor here in Winkler. When she measured me three weeks ago the baby seemed to be the size of one at 20 weeks (I was 26 weeks along). Last week she measured again and the baby seemed to be at 25 weeks. That is a huge blessing! The baby has begun moving around quite a bit. I feel it a lot in the mornings as I'm lying in bed and then again just before going to sleep at night. Those of you who are pregnant and are complaining about the moving don't understand how amazing that is. Enjoy every kick and punch because this is a sign of health!
There are a few things that I can tell you about the personality of our child. It is just as stubborn as it's Mommy and Daddy! Yes, those of you who know us know that this could lead to many struggles! Every time Nathan places his hand on my belly to feel a kick the baby stops moving and then kicks as soon as he takes his hand away. This baby is also giving the doctors a hard time when they want to see certain things during a ultrasound. I believe that this baby also doesn't like taco pizza because I had heartburn from it and that is the only time that I have ever had heartburn. Charissa, if you are reading this it's not because the pizza wasn't delicious! I hope to learn more as the days go by.
The following address is a song that I just received from a blog reader and would like to share it with the rest of you. Please listen to the words. They are amazing and express a lot of what I am feeling.

Thanks to all of you who are praying. I believe that God is listening and that He is using this baby's situation in many different ways for many different people. We love you all even if we don't know you by name!

  1. I will continue to pray for you guys. I can't imagine going through what you are. I pray that things will keep looking better at each appointment.

I'm not sure if you have an infant car seat already, but if you like, you can use mine for the first while. If your baby is going to be quite small, most infant seats don't work so well, but the one I have is awesome for bitty babies.

  2. Still thinking and praying for you guys often. I admire your strength, although I'm sure at times it doesn't feel like there is much strength left in you. And I agree 100% with you saying that expecting moms should never take for granted the kicking and squirming that is happening inside of them. It's a miracle and we should treat it like that.
Take care - and enjoy those yummy pears!

  4. I'm glad you like the song. I still cry everytime I hear it, and it's such a powerful reminder of how precious life is.

Thanks for the update, and don't be afraid to say how you feel.

  5. Stopping over via Stacey's blog. Praying for your little one. Although you can't find survival stories of kids with both conditions, perhaps your baby will be just that survival story that someday another mom worried like you will read and that will give her hope. :)

  7. I also came to your blog through Stacey. My heart goes out to you and your families. Bless you for not giving up in your baby! You will be in my prayers as well.
I also want to let you know how we were faced with a similar issue. We were given the option to abort our baby. Tests also showed our baby was not to be normal. God doesn't make mistakes! That is what I told myself alot during my pregnancy. Now I don't know if it was human error, that the test was wrong or if it was truly a miracle. I like to think of it as a miracle. Our baby was born heathly. Put it in God's hands no one can heal like he can.
    Thanks for sharing your story.

  9. Hi Crystal. I read your blog and i want to bring you some encouraging news as i have gone thru very similar things as you are going thru with your pregnancy and baby. My daughter amber was born 11 years ago and she had many difficulties which i found out when i was only 4 mths pregnant. She has spina bifida with many many problems.Amber was diganosed as the 3rd most severe case in mb. I to was told that the doctors didnt think she would live for more than 5 days and she would have to have many corrective surgeries to make it to the age of 11 if she even lived at all.I got offered an abortion and instantly refused to hear the doc finish his sentence. I gave birth to my daughter 5 mths later and it has been a long and very difficult struggle but rewarding to the end as my daughter is ALIVE!!! She had a 12 hour kyphosis removal surgery this past april and the chance of her surviving that surgery was only 15% and the chance of her coming out of intensive care was only 20%. Once again she beat the odds and her 18th surgery and is still a outgoing, brilliant girl.Keep your spirits up,believe, pray and love your child as miracles do happen everyday!! Im keeping your familly in my prayers.
Theres a reason God has chosen Nathan and yourself as parents for this baby..that in itself should be a reward..Thats what i tell myself everday to keep positive.
    Take care,
    Tina
